Annual clay shoot 27th December 2010
Despite a surprise and
quite severe snowstorm just before
lunchtime we spent a very pleasant day
in the Derbyshire Dales. Thanks once
again to Ron for organising this event
at his home. It was quite a novelty for
most of us shooting in falling snow but
it made the hot soup and mulled cider
afterwards all the more enjoyable.
Sunday 30th May 2010 - Severnside
Sunday 27th December - Annual Clay Pigeon Scaring Day.
The weather was just about as good as one could realistically hope for in late December. It certainly stayed dry for a
few hours, enough to allow some most enjoyable shooting. As usual, club members were joined by some of Ron's friends and family
and we had several first-time shooters for who I'm sure it won't be the last time.
Our grateful thanks are due to Ron and Brenda for hosting this event. As usual their hospitality was above and beyond the
call of duty. We must also not forget to
thank Lucy who once again provided the now traditional (hopefully) shed-load of mince pies.
Sunday 29th November 2009 - Club shoot at Severnside
The rain on Sunday was appalling but for some reason this did not prevent a surprising number of members and even several first
time visitors from spending a couple of hours shooting and apparently enjoying it!
We were limited to conventional cartridge guns on this occasion,
the muskets and cannon had to stay under wraps as soggy gunpowder
is not a great deal of use.
Perhaps the day is best described in
the words of Ron, who prefers to remain
anonymous.
The November rain horizontal flew
as the brave few stood to shoot
soaked and cold as the targets blew
British all, crazy & mad as a coot.
'Twas hard to tell the fall of shot
As targets scattering, flying, estuary wide
but did the crazy few turn, no sir not!
whilst warmed clay guys, disdainful, sighed.
For black powder there was no chance
Shotless cannons came, and returned in silence
but through the mud the daft did prance
then all were gone, having served penance.
Thank you Ron. Written like an engineer.
Annual General Meeting
This was held at the Old Spot in Dursley on Monday 26th October at 7.30 pm.
The committee was returned unopposed with the addition of one new general committee member.
The minutes of this meeting will be circulated to all members in due course.
Sunday 25th October 2009 - Club shoot at Severnside
It would be fair to say that we got more than a little damp. Showers were forecast but nobody mentioned about them being all
joined together. However it did clear up eventually and we were able to proceed with the days activities although we
probably generated more steam than smoke.
Sunday 27th September 2009 - Club shoot at Severnside
A pleasant autumn day, a friendly club and a fine selection of guns. What more can a man ask?

Colin's matchlock musket is always an attraction with visitors ...
... and that's the long and the short of it.
Sunday 30th August 2009 - Club shoot at Severnside
Another excellent turnout. It's very gratifying to see the steady flow of visitors who go on to become probationary members,
especially in a climate where clubs of all interests have generally declining memberships.
This meeting saw the inaugural firing of the club's new miniature cannon section! We believe that we are the first shooting
club in the U.K. to include this activity (i.e. using cannon for target shooting rather than just blank firing).

And here it is on video:

Please do any members have photographs of these events?
Sunday 31st May 2009 - Club shoot at Severnside
What a beautiful day and even more so when compared with the May shoot last year. A breeze off the Severn nicely moderated what
otherwise would have been a scorching hot day.
We had an excellent turnout including three prospective members (and I got the impression that they liked what they saw).
The team was incomplete however and we'd like to wish our treasurer a speedy recovery.
Here's what you missed Keir.

It almost seemed a shame to spoil the tranquillity of the Severn estuary - but we did anyway. |

How often do you see the sky this colour west of Offa's Dyke? |

This is the club's 'Globe' converted .303 - oh, and Ron. |

Black powder pistols always prove popular with the visitors. |

Phil was getting some remarkable results with the Accuracy 7.62 |

Who said the Russians never had a sense of humour? Roger gives the club's latest acquisition its first outing. |

A lesson for the guests in English Civil War history.
